Northern Mariana Islands

The Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) has a strong presence in regional sporting events, including the Micronesian Games, the Pacific Games, and the Mini Pacific Games. It has hosted three editions of the Micronesian Games in 1969, 1990, and 2006. CNMI became a commonwealth in union with the US in 1976 and is made up of 14 islands, with Saipan being the most populated. The economy relies heavily on tourism and US federal funding, with key industries being tourism, banking, construction, fishing, and handicrafts. CNMI faces challenges such as waste management, protection of endangered species, and natural disasters like volcanoes and typhoons. Despite these challenges, the Northern Marianas' strong sporting community continues to contribute to the success of the Micronesian Games.
